IGA Istanbul Airport Management’s Statement on FedEx B767 Landing on Fuselage

A Boeing 767 type cargo plane belonging to FedEx, flight number #FX6238 from CDG – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, made a successful landing at İGA Istanbul Airport without opening the front landing gear due to a technical reason, with the guidance of the air traffic control tower.

Istanbul Airport management also made statements.

IGA Istanbul Airport:

“On Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 at 08:17, a Boeing 767 type cargo aircraft of FedEx, flight number FX6238, arriving from CDG – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, safely landed at iGA Istanbul Airport without opening the front landing gear due to a technical issue, as directed by the air traffic control tower. Immediately upon the controlled landing on the fuselage, the accident was taken under control without any injuries or loss of life by the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Team (ARFF) of iGA Istanbul Airport. Air traffic was temporarily halted on runway 16R following the landing. The teams are diligently working to safely relocate the aircraft and restore routine flight operations on the runway. Flight traffic and operations remain unaffected on all other runways, including the auxiliary runways.”

IGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen:
“We carried out a successful landing operation with the controlled and instantaneous intervention of our IGA ARFF (Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting) teams. I would like to share that with a coordinated and meticulous work, the situation was brought under control without any loss of life. I wish all of us a speedy recovery.”

IGA Istanbul Airport Corporate Communications Director Gökhan Şengül:
“With the controlled and instantaneous intervention of our ARFF (Airport Rescue and Firefighting) teams, a highly successful operation was carried out, which will be shown as an example in the field of aviation, as in many other fields so far. Get well soon to all of us.”
